How does it work?

The all-new RODEO Grill & Smoker is a charcoal-fueled portable cooker built for both high-heat grilling and low-and-slow smoking.

Find a safe place to grill
Place your RODEO on a secure/solid, non-combustible surface (on the ground, a stable table, or a metal stand). Never place your grill directly on a plastic table, or any composite surface, as they could melt or catch fire.

Light your charcoal
Use a chimney starter with 1-2 NOMAD Fire Starters in the base to help quickly light your coals. Wait until charcoal is burning all the way through and covered in ash (usually 30+ minutes). Use tongs to safely load your fuel across the charcoal grate for maximum airflow.

Grilling mode for high heat/direct fire
Open the grill up flat and utilize both sides for cooking (with optional Rodeo Grate Set). Load 6-9 bricks of NOMAD 100% All-Natural Charcoal or ½ chimney of NOMAD Premium Lump Hardwood Charcoal in each cookbox for ripping hot searing temps.

Smoker mode for low & slow offset cooking
For single-grate smoking with the hood closed, load 6-9 bricks of NOMAD Fire for a typical two-zone, offset cook. Add a few pieces of our Smoking Wood Splits for a delicious smoky flavor.

Why did we make it?

Tired of the quasi-disposable, stamped steel & barely bolted cookers, we set out to build a better grill — one that’s over-engineered to last for generations. Built like a tank, Rodeo Grill & Smoker is a revolt against cut-rate kettles & camp cookers that rattle and fall apart after a season of use.

Who is it made for?

Built for real cooking, wherever it happens, and made for those who expect their gear to keep up.

From weeknight cooks in the backyard to long weekends on the road, RODEO is a durable, high-performance portable built for serious charcoal cooking, delivering epic grilling at home or on the roam.

Q&A

Hello, I work for the Department of education in Hawaii. I was wondering if you take purchase orders because that is the only way we can purchase items unless you sell on Amazon?
Hi Lars, Please email our customer service team (hello@nomadgrills.com) and the they can further assist you. Thanks, NOMAD Grills
Will you be offering a 'NOMAD Carbon Steel Griddle' built specifically for the Rodeo? I would love to have this option available for the next generation.
We don’t have a carbon steel griddle for Rodeo just yet, but it’s something we’re actively working on and hope to offer soon. Thanks, NOMAD Grills
For the Rodel: Is there any way to lock the upper half lid in a intermediate position, or can it only open all the way flat?
Rodeo isn’t designed to lock in an intermediate position—it’s meant to open fully and lay flat in grill mode. Thanks, NOMAD Grills
I’m thinking I’d like to carry the Rodeo with us as we travel. How quickly does it cool down after a high temp cook (in rough minutes if possible) enough to safely place in our suv after a delicious lunch so we can resume the trip?
Hi Ken, For the fastest and most controlled cool down, remove and properly dispose of the remaining coals. This will allow the grill to cool in just a few minutes. Otherwise, close the intake and exhaust vents and latch the grill to snuff out the fire. Rodeo will typically cool down in about 30–45 minutes and be ready to stow and go. Thank you, NOMAD Grills
Does the outer shell of the rodeo get hotter compared to the original multilayered design of the nomad?
Hi Sean, Rodeo uses a different construction than the original NOMAD, while still being designed for tabletop grilling with an elevated stance on silicone feet to help protect the surface below. It features a durable die-cast aluminum body that dissipates heat efficiently. Thanks, NOMAD Grills
Does the nomad grill cast grate fit on the new rodeo?
Hi Frank, The original NOMAD cast grate is not compatible with Rodeo. Rodeo uses a different grate system with separate charcoal and cooking grates designed specifically for it. Thanks, NOMAD Grills
Does it come with the built in thermometer or do I have to add it when I buy it?
Hi Jonathan: Rodeo does not include a thermometer by default, but you can add one at the time of purchase if desired. -- NOMAD Grills
OG NOMAD owner. Does you need to purchase thermostat with new grill?
Hi Mark: Looks like you just picked up a Rodeo earlier today, so thank you for the purchase and continued support over the years. The thermometer is optional and not included by default, but it can be added at the time of purchase. -- NOMAD Grills
The rodeo is around 42% less than price than the original, is the original going to be still made or has it been discontinued? How can it be better yet cost so much less?
The original NOMAD Grill & Smoker is currently sold out online. Our focus is on Rodeo as the next evolution of the platform, while continuing to support the original NOMAD. Rodeo builds on the original NOMAD with a more refined, integrated design and added versatility. It offers more cooking space (500+ sq in), strong heat control, and a more durable, all-cast construction with fewer parts. Combined with U.S.-based manufacturing, this allows us to deliver the same high level of performance at a more accessible price. Thanks, NOMAD Grills
What is the main differences/advantages of the rodeo grill versus the original Nomad?
Thanks for your interest in the Rodeo. Rodeo builds on the original NOMAD with a more refined, integrated design and added versatility. It offers more cooking space (500+ sq in), strong heat control, and a more durable, all-cast construction with fewer parts. It’s also made in the USA and priced at $399. » [Rodeo Grill & Smoker](https://nomadgrills.com/products/nomad-rodeo-grill-smoker) Bottom line: same NOMAD performance, just bigger, tougher, and more versatile. -- NOMAD Grills

Our grills are tough.

Buying one shouldn’t be.
