"I help organize and run a large tailgate experience called the Hungry Dawgs in Philadelphia. For us, sports is a cross between religion and a cult. We’re wired a bit differently. We throw down hard in the Lots with food you’d expect to see at a VIP event or a BBQ competition. The NOMAD grill has been a game changer because of its capability, versatility, portability, durability, and reliability. I’ve grilled-smoked in parking lots, backyards, cornfields, courtyards, at MLB players houses, and in the middle of a residential street in South Philly. I own 4 other smokers, a gas grill, flat top, and 1500 degree portable broiler. The NOMAD is my workhouse grill. I cannot adequately articulate how this piece of equipment has elevated my cooking. Has anyone tried to smoke a nicely trimmed packer brisket on the Nomad? If not, then I think they should, IMO, make a Nomad big enough to fit a brisket. That would be awesome and make my family members extremely happy.

Is it suitable for whitewater rafting, where it may get fully immersed in river water?
Hi Bill, Thanks for reaching out and thanks for your interest in NOMAD. To answer your question below, the NOMAD Grills & Smoker does incredibly well in marine environments. The finishes are all anodized, so there's no paint to peel or chip, but also that process treats & protects the aluminum surfaces for ultimate durability & corrosion-resistance. The thermometer is removable (it just pops in and out with a compression fitting), so you may just want to ensure you safely store that piece before fully immersing the grill. if the grates are magnetic - they cannot be true stainless steel. Why do you call them 'stainless' and not an alloy that contains iron?
We use a 400 series of Stainless Steel, so our Cast Cooking Grates have enough Ferrite content to be attracted to a magnetic source. Hope that helps answer your BBQuestions. Thanks!
When the grill case is closed can you leave both grates attached magnetically at the same time or will they conflict with each other?
Two grates are designed to nest on top of one another and they will both fit inside the grill for easy transport. Our Cast Cooking Grate is designed with that domed/ camber shape to add extreme rigidity to the part as well as a bit of extra coal clearance. Pro Tip: flip a grate over and BOOM — you got a veggie basket!

Do the grates need to be seasoned or pre-treated? If so, what would be the recommended process?
Oiling and heating your stainless steel cast cooking grates can create a protective barrier that helps prevent rust as well as help to make the surface nonstick. To season, evenly coat your grates with a high-heat cooking oil then fire up your grill and allow it to heat 15 -30 minutes.
